Piazza Grande The village of Palmanova is actually a 16th century fortress, initially constructed by the occupying Venetians. Beginning with the hexagonal Piazza Grande, the centre of the city, streets were built to beam geometrically outwards, so that, from the sky, the city forms a perfect, nine-pointed star. The nearly-intact city walls sit atop several hidden tunnels that wind through the city. |
