Aquileia Basilica An earthquake in 1348 levelled Aquileia's basilica, but work began on its successor shortly after, concealing its greatest treasure treasure. The floor has since been peeled back to reveal fourth-century Roman mosaics, a rare memoir of the earliest days of Christianity. Visitors walk above on transparent bridges. Equally as important are the contents of the church's crypts — one houses ninth-century frescoes, the other, first-century mosaics. Address: Piazza Capitolo Aquileia UD Italy
