Borgo Castello Gorizia Overlooking the old city, the Borgo Casrello has seen a great deal of violence, most recently during the First World War. Italian armies held off advancing Austrian soldiers for nearly three years, until finally the city was taken. The castle was rebuilt shortly after the war ended. The complex, which dates from the Middle Ages, was actually built upon the ruins of another ancient fortress. Within the castle walls are two museums, one in dedication to the Great War, another housing relics from Italy's love of fashion. Address: Borgo Castello, 58 Gorizia GO Italy
